How could we evolve the current DNA and push the product to better match the brands fun nature?
The Roku 2 was designed to have a bit more personality than the previous versions. We wanted to push the design to have more
playful curves and a more pronounced stance. The goal was to amplify the playfulness that separates it from the crowd.
It was critical that the industrial design helped Roku meet very low target costs. A refined part break-up and conscious use of materials and finishes bundles the tiny device in a fun, sophisticated, and cost-effective package.
We worked closely with Roku’s hardware engineers to minimize the footprint of the PCB and shrink the case to hug the components as tight as possible. Through some clever molding considerations we were able to keep case part countdown and in turn, provide a lower cost BOM to Roku.
